Thinking about making your girlfriend the happiest girl in the world by giving her a ring?

Whether she wants a traditional diamond solitaire or a Halo setting, the ring reflects the woman who wears it, and you want a ring that is as unique as she is.

Don’t know her ring size? Use these tips to get as close as possible.

1-Make note of your girlfriend’s height and build. OK, this one can be tricky, but it’s a good place to start and there are always exceptions. The average woman is about 5’5? tall. The average woman’s ring size is about a 6.5. A slender, small-framed girl could wear a ring size of 5 or smaller. A taller, larger-framed girl could wear a ring size of 7.5 to 9 or larger.

2-Go out and try on rings “for fun.” Chances are, your girlfriend has dragged you into a jewelry store to look at rings. Most high-end jewelers stock rings at size 6.5. Most mall or chain stores go with a size 7. Think back. Was she able to get a ring on her finger easily? If not, you’ll probably want to go with a larger ring size than a 6.5 or 7. How was the fit? Loose, tight or just right? If the fit was a touch loose, then go with a size 6.

3-Take pictures. An experienced jeweler can look at a picture and be able to make an estimate on your girlfriend’s ring size, even if it’s a casual shot of the two of you. Just make sure it’s a recent picture and her hands can be seen clearly.

4-The Watching TV Trick. The next time the two of you are watching Netflix on TV, slip off a ring she is wearing and see how far it can up your pinky finger it can go. Make a note of which knuckle it passes or if it goes all the way on. Also make note of which hand and finger she wears the ring, since each hand and finger is normally different in size. Then, have your jeweler size your pinky at that place.

5-Snag a ring from her jewelry box. If this is your plan, make sure that she won’t think something has been stolen! Again, it is important to know on which finger she normally wears the ring. No rings to snag? Well … let’s work on that collection!

6-Ask her. In the end, if you’re guessing your girlfriend’s ring size, it is just that. A guess. While getting close will definitely score you points, most rings can be sized up or down two full sizes. So, you’re safe. Make sure to ask your jeweler the sizing parameters on the particular ring before ordering and what the policies are for resizing
